August 5, 2013 – Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino was named American League Player of the Week after hitting .400 last week to help the Red Sox stay in first place in the contentious American League East.
The Boston right fielder went 12-for-30 with three doubles, two home runs, six RBIs and seven runs scored over seven games. The Red Sox went 5-2 over that span to maintain a one-game lead over the Rays in the division.
It was Victorino’s first career weekly award and Boston’s third this season. (Mike Napoli and Andrew Bailey shared it for the week ending April 21.)
