On August 13, the Shane Victorino Foundation partnered with Simon’s Fund – an organization dedicated to raising awareness about conditions that may lead to sudden cardiac arrest and death in children – to provide free heart screenings to the members of the Shane Victorino Nicetown Boys & Girls Club. In addition, Cardiac Science donated an AED (automated external defibrillator) to the Club and Red Cross volunteers performed CPR demonstrations.
Simon’s Fund reports that sudden cardiac arrest is the leading killer of student athletes, killing 2,000 children a year, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Up to 85% percent of the conditions that cause sudden cardiac arrest can be detected by a simple, noninvasive electrocardiogram (ECG).
Thank you to Simon’s Fund for providing this opportunity to the Victorino Club members!
