Maui, Hawaii – As part of SVF’s partnership with Foodland, a contest was held to vote for the new “Flyin’ Hawaiian” poke flavor, now available at all Foodland and Sack N Save stores statewide. More than 5,000 votes were cast online for four different varieties of poke. The winner “homeplate” was announced on November 18, 2011 by Shane Victorino and Denis Scott, Foodland Director of Marketing, at their Kihei, Maui store. After the announcement, Victorino also spoke with 5th-graders from Kamalii Elementary School and members of Maui Family Support Services. “When I come back home, it makes me realize how fortunate I am to be able to come from a place like this,” he said.
Homeplate is made of ahi cube, kim chee cabbage, Japanese cucumber, kim chee sauce, Sriracha sauce, masago, and kukui nut. For each pound sold, Foodland will donate 25 cents to the Shane Victorino Foundation. Pick up your “Flyin’ Hawaiian” poke today!
